Knowing the Distinction between Window Curtain Fabrics and Materials

The Maids • Oct 31, 2013

Fabric is one thing you touch, feel, wear, and decorate with every single day. Think about pants for a minute. The fabric used to make it will represent how comfortable it is, as well as how durable it is. When referring to curtains, fabric determines how well the curtain operates, as well as how durable it is. It also represents the design and quality too. Fabrics are derived and created by spinning and weaving one or more materials together. Your jeans are from a fabric. Your couch is from a fabric. Your car seats are from a fabric. Your blanket is from a fabric. To better understand this explanation, your coat originally started out as a material, such as cotton. The cotton was spun together to form a fabric. The fabric then became a coat. As a result, each and every fabric that gets used to make a product uses materials. Materials can include wool, cotton, silk, linen, etc.

Curtains fall into this same area because they have many different fabrics and materials. When looking at fabrics, they can be labeled based from materials and/or based from the design. In understanding the different fabrics and materials available today, even if just to a degree, you will find it easier to compare descriptions.

Aside from fabric confusion, fibers or materials determine the overall properties of the fabric, including dependability, look, quality, etc. Wool will provide more strength and insulates well, but silk will provide fashion and increase visual appeal. In addition, nylon carries high strength and abrasion resistant properties and polyester adds strength and shrink resistant advantages.

Knowing what is what when it comes to materials and fabrics is important so that you can find the right curtains for your needs. You may do a lot of housekeeping to make a room look fantastically appealing, but things like the window curtains can take away from that appeal.
