The Maids • Feb 21, 2014

Almost everyone has a junk drawer- a place full of random household items tossed together. All the items that are rarely used are stored in a junk drawer. It is full of odds and ends, but it doesn't have to be in a disorderly state. Organizing that junk drawer in the kitchen can be a daunting task, but with a couple of some basic steps, you can transform it into a decently organized area within no time. Yes, you heard me right.

Start by dumping everything in your junk drawer out onto a large surface, like a kitchen table. Discard any broken material as well as those which you don't need. Be realistic, and find another place for those things you will never, ever use again. They are just wasting some space in the drawer.

Sort and group the remaining contents in piles. Plan for the storage solutions of your items. Measure the height and the width of your junk drawer and then decide which hardware you will use to divide your items. You can use some small trays, muffin tins, ice cube trays, empty bank-check boxes, votive candle-holders or spend some extra few bucks to purchase a drawer organizer. Fit your preferred hardware into the now-empty drawer.

Here comes the interesting part. You had already grouped like items together, so arrange them into the compartments that suit them best. This will make you to see what is in there rapidly rather than rifling through searching for those old coupons amongst some newspaper articles you have clipped. Organize the stray keys by labeling them using key tags. Place the labeled keys together in one compartment and you will never wonder what they unlock again.

Now you have a well-organized junk drawer. Its upkeep is crucial so go through it regularly for its maintenance purposes.
